Bentley pupils prepare to defend title

25 June 2009

BENTLEY High Street Primary School will defend its national futsal title at Sheffield's English Institute of Sport on Saturday.
Talented youngsters from the primary won the South Yorkshire Schools Futsal Cup for the second year running at Ponds Forge earlier this month.

Now they are set to represent the town at the national finals for a fourth year out of the last five - taking on some of the best club and school sides from across the country.

Tickhill Estfeld School, meanwhile, picked up the South Yorkshire Schools Plate at the county finals.

Futsal is a five-a-side version of football, typically played indoors, which originated in South America.

The game is played with a smaller, heavier ball with less bounce - meaning players have to concentrate on improvisation, creativity and technique.

Pupils at Bentley High Street worked with the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA two years ago to produce a futsal promotional video that is now being shown nationwide.
