Team Genesis showed tons of poise and composure last night at the Astumbo Gymnasium in their Guam Football Association/Department of Parks and Recreation Men’s Futsal League. Genesis, who badly needed a win, earned it against Community First by defeating the credit union team 6-1.

Genesis had an offensive arsenal that Community First could not contained as Genesis put the game out of reach right from the get-go. Leading Genesis was striker Ben Young as he single-handedly scored four goals against Community First.

“I guess that I was just in a groove that they could not stop tonight,” Young said after the game. “I was just focused on making sure that my team won the game at all costs.”

With the win, Genesis improved their record to 1-3 on the young season while Community First fell to 1-4.

“We just had to penetrate their red-zone and make sure that our shots counted,” said Young. “After every score, we reminded ourselves hat we could not let up.”

After feeling their opponents out, Genesis got on board in the eighth minute as Young scorched the ball passed Community First goalie Rick Tyqueingco for the game’s first score.

“I knew that if we kept the pressure up against them, that they would begin to get frustrated,” said Young.

A full three minutes later, Young found the back of the net again as he received the ball from a teammate at half court. Young proceeded to dribble the ball flawlessly en route to putting the ball passed the Community First goalie for another score. Kevin Hashimoto was credited with an assist on the play.

Action remained at a stalemate for the remainder of the half but Community First trimmed their deficit 2-1 after Ramon Ogo scored in the 25th minute of play. Genesis then went into halftime leading by one. “We had to regroup after they scored against us,” Young said.

As the second half began, Genesis returned a more focused team and went right to work again. Young once again hit pay-dirt as he netted his third goal of the game earning him a hat-trick in the 28th minute to put his team up 3-1.

“I was relieved and happy when I made the hat-trick. I just wanted to help my team get our first win tonight,” Young said.

“When you have a guy scoring like that, at will too, you will be bound to have problems,” Ogo said after the game.

Genesis took a 5-1 lead after Jason “Is So” Trickey scored in the 31st minute and Hashimoto scored a goal in the 34th minute. “We knew they would still be fighting despite being down by so many goals. We did not let up on pressure and pulled out the win,” Young emphasized.

Young was credited with assists on both scoring drives by his teammates.

“I was not satisfied with three, so I went for four tonight.,” said Young after scoring his fourth goal in the 44th minute. “We needed to win badly tonight and I think we can finally say we are a contender this year. We did not fair so well last year and I think this win is just what we needed to boost our morale.”
