Iran beats Uruguay in futsal Grand Prix

Iran defeated Uruguay in its opener of the 2009 Brazil Futsal Grand Prix which takes place in the Brazilian cities of Goiania and Anapolis from June 28 to July 5.

Iran defeated its opponent 5-3, while Romania beat Costa Rica 5-3 in Group B. The fourth-place finisher in the 2008 World Cup will face Costa Rica on June 30.

A total of sixteen teams are divided into four groups. The Brazil Futsal Grand Prix is an international competition of the same kind as the FIFA Futsal World Championship but with invited nations and held annually in Brazil. It was first held in 2005.
