Quality Distributors made a statement on Sunday as they defeated Community First 8-6 in their 2009 Guam Football Association Men’s Futsal League game at the Agat gymnasium.

Leading the way for Quality in their come-from-behind victory was Seung Min Lee as he recorded a hat-trick.

“We were down for most of the game but when it mated, we came through as a team and won the game,” Lee said.

With the win, Quality Distributors improve their record to 5-2 while the credit union team fall to 2-5.

Lee struck early on in the game as he scored the games first goal 40 seconds after the opening buzzer, putting his team up 1-0. Two minutes later, Community First tied the game as striker Ramon Ogo shot the ball past Quality goalie Rodney Camacho for a score.

“We tried our best against them today, but it does not matter unless the higher score is on our side,” Ogo said. “I guess they just wanted it more and we will need to work on our defense before our next game.”

Community First took the lead in the 5th minute of play as Devin Tyquiengco scored a mere two feet away from Camacho. A minute later, Ogo found pay-dirt once again as he scorched the ball into the goal after receiving a pass from a fellow teammate from half court giving Community First a 3-1 lead.

Community First then took a 4-1 lead after Felix Fontanilla scored after Lee lost possession of the ball feet away from their own goal. The Distributors managed to get another goal on the board in the 11th minute of play, trimming Community First’ lead 4-2 after co-captain Andre Gadia found his rhythm and laced the ball into the net when Community First goalie Ricky Tyquiengco miscalculated Gadia’s handling abilities.

A minute later, Ogo recorded a hat-trick of his own as he pounded the ball into the goal for another goal, giving his team a 5-2 lead midway through the first half. “I thought that we had the game in our control, boy was I wrong,” Ogo said.

In the 15th minute of action, Quality’s Matt Cruz trimmed his oppositions lead 5-3 after he dribbled the ball down court en route to scoring with several defenders in his way. Ogo retaliated once again as he scored his fourth goal of the game in the 21st minute of play as Fontanilla fed Ogo the ball at half court.

As Ogo was about to line his shot up, he noticed the pressure mounting and faked a pass to Fontanilla. As the defense took the bait, Ogo ran the ball straight into the goal as he caught Camacho off-guard for a score.

Gadia scored a minute later, trimming Community First’s lead to 6-4 heading into the halftime break.

“We told ourselves to stay calm because if we gave any indication that we became flustered, we would lose the game totally,” Lee said. “We huddled together during the intermission and we told one another that it was not over yet.”

That statement became true as Lee scored in the 35th minute of play. A break-away play saw Gadia perform a variety of tricks with his feet, confusing Community First. Gadia then passed the ball to Lee who was waiting patiently in front of the goal. As Lee got the ball, he kicked it backwards with the Community First goalie not noticing the nifty trick that cut the lead to one.

Cruz tied the game 6-6 in the 41st minute of the game as he netted the ball from four yards out. A full minute later, Quality Distributors player Paul Long gave his team the lead as he scored from three yards out. “it felt good that I scored that goal,” Long said.

With only four more minutes left in the game, Lee scored in the 46th minute after receiving a pass from Long. Lee then thundered the ball into the net earning him the hat-trick.

In other results from Sunday; Inter FC defeated the I.E.C. Islanders 5-2; the Cobras defeated Genesis 6-5, and Guam Shipyard defeated the Bank of Guam Crushers 6-4.
