Fiji LiveYoung Kurukurus wallop VanuatuJuly 08, 2009The Solomon Islands Futsal side registered the biggest score of the 2009 Oceania Football Confederation Futsal Championship in Suva tonight when they walloped Vanuatu 11-0.
The young Kurukurus outclassed their arch rivals in all aspects of the game to book their spot in the final on Friday evening.
Solomon Islands coach Dickson Kadau thanked his team for the outstanding performance saying that his team has created a force to reckon with.
“The team played well and a win was our usual expectation. The game brought out the best of every players and I think we deserved a win. I believe team work was the strength behind the win,” Kadau said.
Vanuatu coach Marco Herrominly said his side had a lot of opportunities at goal however; failing to play according to the game plan was the reason behind their downfall.
“We almost got everything right but we failed to break our opponents defence,” Herrominly said.
“The pressure was tough and we were playing according to our opponents’ game pattern. We failed to execute our game plan and ended up missing a lot of good opportunities at goals.”

The third day’s competition in the Oceania Football Confederation FUTSAL Championship 2009 has kicked off at the Vodafone Arena in Suva with Solomon Islands playing Vanuatu in the first match.
The young Kurukurus are favorites to win the encounter but Vanuatu should not be underestimated as they outclassed the Solomon Islanders 5-1 last season in the OFC World Cup Qualifiers at the same venue.
The Kurukuru's are on fire and are currently leading Vanuatu 3-0. Captain Elliot Ragomo scored the opener, Micah Lea'alafa the second and Jack Wetney the third.
Wetney has got his second of the match and the Solo boys now lead 4-0 midway in the first half.
A stunner from Stanley Puairana from halfway mark has added another goal to the Kurukuru's score sheet.
Its halftime here at th Vodafone Arena with the Solomon Islands enjoying a comfortable lead.

The second half has commenced and the Solomon Islands has scored two quick goals through James Egeta and Wetney to lead 7-0.
Two further goals from Lea'alafa and Wetney now sees the Solo boys leading with a massive 9-0 margin.
James Egeta and Moffat Sikwa'ae have added two more goals as we head into the later stages of the second spell.
Vanuatu toiled hard in the dying minutes to get on the scoreboard but defence of the Kurukuru was just too hard to break.
The referee has blown the final whistle and the young Solomon Islands outfit register a massive 11-0 victory over Vanuatu, one of the famous ones in recent times.
The Dickson Kadau coached side also become the first finalist for the main final on Friday evening.

Fiji LiveFiji faces Solo in FUTSAL finalJuly 08, 2009Fiji has booked a date with reigning champs Solomon Islands in the final of the 2009 Oceania Football Confederation FUTSAL championship after beating New Caledonia 3-1 tonight.
The host nation needed a win in the fixture to advance to the final after losing to the Kurukurus last night 5-3 in an exciting clash.
Captain Kamal Hassan led by example and scored two goals in the first spell to put pressure on the New Caledonians who were able to net one through Christophe Whoap who later copped a red card after two bookings.
Fiji led 2-1 at the breather and scored its third goal midway in the second spell through Suva midfielder Dinesh Mudaliar who scored from an individual effort.
Goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau put up a man of the match performance and made numerous sure goals saves in both spells.
Fiji coach Imitiaz Khan is hoping for a better finishing against the Solomon Islanders on Friday and believes there is still room for improvement.
“We’ve picked up a lot during this tournament and I’m satisfied with what we’ve achieved so far considering that we’re playing for the first place against Solomon,” Khan said.
“I think I see we still more development in indoor soccer and look forward to a good game against Solomon. We need to be more patience with our game and more support from the home crowd will be uplifting.”
New Caledonia coach Eric Michalak was disappointed with his teams’ performance saying they need to work on their defence before their last game against Vanuatu.
“We lacked good defense and we needed to move quickly,” Michalak said.
“We were good in attacking but we couldn’t get the ball back into our territory when we’re defending. We need to polish on our set pieces and game structure” he added.
Fiji will play Solomon Islands in the first and second place playoff at 8pm on Friday evening while Vanuatu and New Caledonia will clash in the third and fourth place playoff at 6pm.
