UEFA.comApprentice replaces Dutch masterWednesday 8 July 2009Marcel Loosveld has been appointed as Netherlands coach after Vic Hermans, the man he previously assisted, stepped down after missing out on the 2010 UEFA European Futsal Championship.
Transferable skillsThe 46-year-old Loosveld has committed to the post until summer 2012, marking the dawn of a new era for the Dutch national team who, for the past eight years, have been led by Hermans. "With much pleasure and motivation I worked as Jong Oranje [Under-21] coach over the past two years and I'm eager to apply the insights and methods I have developed with the senior national team," said Loosveld, a man capped 39 times during his playing career.
'Primary goal'Loosveld guided the U21s to the UEFA European U21 Futsal Tournament in St Petersburg last year and has highlighted leading the seniors to a finals as his "primary goal". Hermans did just that in 2005 as the Oranje reached the European Championship but, having failed to seal a place in the 2010 edition, departed when his contract expired on 1 July.
