The Astumbo gym last night was ground zero for an intense game between the Bank of Guam Crushers and Community First in the Guam Football Association 2009 Men's Futsal League.

At the sound of the final buzzer it was the Crushers who walked out with a 3-1 victory over their opponents.
The teams came out with an aggressive style of play as several players from both sides bodied up against one another and attacked on every possession for the first 5 minutes of the game. Neither allowed the other a clear shot on goal until about 7 minutes into the game, when Bank of Guam's Tatsuya Yahata got a look. Unfortunately, Yahata missed the opportunity.
The tempo of the game seemed to swing towards the Crushers' side as they created opportunities and eventually capitalized. In the 9th minute, Jesus Leon Guerrero scored the game's first goal after he received a nicely placed through pass from Halley Sakamoto.
It wasn't until the 12th and 13th minutes of the game that Community First's Ramon Ogo took shots on goal. Crushers goalkeeper Aaron Jackson, however, denied both chances.
With less than 2 minutes left in the half, Community First found some light when Adam Rudolph powered a free kick past a Crushers' three-man wall. The time on the clock wound down with the score knotted a 1-all.
In the second half things got heated -- the teams racked up a combined three caution cards within 5 minutes. It wasn't until about midway through the half when the tie was broken by the Crushers. Pele Torres put Bank of Guam up 2-1 following a perfectly timed pass from Eliseo Zamarron that he zipped past Community First keeper Ricky Tyquiengco Jr.
The Crushers added some cushion to their lead with 8 minutes left when Zamarron scored on a left-footed kick.
The win improves Bank of Guam to 3-4-0, while Community First falls to 2-6-0.

Other results from last night:

•Cobras 8, Rovers F.C. 3.

•Quality Distributors 6, Paintco Strykers 2.

Futsal action resumes this Sunday at the Agat gym with the first game slated for 2 p.m.
