Chippenham Futsal Club win SW Futsal tournament

Chippenham Futsal Club travelled down to Christchurch on Sunday 12th July to particpate in the inaugural SW Futsal tournament organised by John Mackintosh and Bourne2play.com. With the senior men having a break before preparations for the new season begin, manager Chris Ballinger opted to blood some young guns who have made a good impression in recent friendly matches, along with England futsal captain Luke Ballinger. A difficult and fiesty first group game against a local team playing their first ever game of futsal resulted in a 4-1 win for Chippenham. This was followed by a more comfortable 8-1 victory over another local team. These two victories secured a semi-final slot against Kickers – a well-established and experienced futsal side from London. By now though confidence was high and this young team (average age 18) feared no-one and established an early two goal lead. Kickers fought back and equalised the game at 2-2 early in the second half. Unfazed, Chippenham went on the offensive and blitzed the Kickers goal to end the match 7-3 winners and with a place in the final. The final saw Chippenham play another local side new to futsal, Ocean Boys, who had impressed all afternoon with their skilful and athletic performances. In the only way they know how, Chippenham raced to a 4-1 lead, only to be pulled back to 4-3 through sloppy defensive play and lack of concentration. Nevertheless, the young team held their nerve and went on to dominate the second half, ending up 10-3 winners. With the Brazilian flair of Lucas Totti, Bruno Gibin and Filipe Lopez, the experience of Luke Ballinger and the enthusiasm and skill of local boys George Nash, Jesse Nash, Arthur Richardson and Luke Jones, the future for Chippenham Futsal Club is looking very exciting.
