Four Stars Pocket Four Goals Apiece

Nicolas Baum, Aliyah Broughton, Luka Mrakovic and Daniela Chavira packed in four goals apiece to bring their respective teams to victory on Sunday, July 12 in the San Diego Futsal League.

Baum scored four goals to lead his Surf White team to a 10-9 finish over the Surf Blue in a very physical and intense battle in the BU8 bracket.

Broughton was on a quest of her own to help her Quest team nab an 8-1 win over the Futsal Fury in the GU8 bracket. Madison Lunde, Rachel Shoemaker, Alex Walling and Eleanor Spiller each contributed one goal to Quest’s eight-goal total. Genevieve Hara banked the only goal for the Futsal Fury.

Mrakovic’s four goals helped the Futsal 5 maintain a lead over the Academy, a team that had not allowed a single goal in its previous three games. However, Chavira, who played her best game of the season, scored four goals to lead her Academy team to a late 8-6 comeback. The Academy team rolls on with a five-game winning streak in the co-ed U7 bracket.

Scripps United and the Matrix battled in an intense match up in the GU12 bracket with Scripps coming out with the 6-4 finish to maintain its five-game undefeated streak.

League play resumes Sunday at Alliant University with early games starting at 6 p.m. and going until 9 p.m. The event is free of charge to spectators.
