Daily San Diego Soccer NewsSD Futsal Camps Grow in PopularitySaturday, July 18, 2009San Diego Futsal kicked off its 10th summer camp on July 6 at the Encinitas Recreation Center. Players ranged in ages from 5-13. Throughout the week, play was fast-paced and action-packed, as would be expected at any Futsal event. Kids got the chance to put their skills to the test and strut their stuff. The technical abilities on display were thoroughly impressive across the board.
Futsal camper Zak, 13, said it best: "SD Futsal camp made me play real field soccer much easier. Once you are used to the speed of Futsal, it makes normal soccer feel like it is in slow motion.”
Futsal is always entertaining because of the lightning-fast pace, intricate footwork and goals galore.
There are six more summer camps being offered: Alliant University, July 20-24 and Aug. 10-14; Encinitas Recreation Center, July 27-31; and Carmel Mountain/Sabre Springs Rec Center, Aug. 17-21.
All the camp times are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and are indoors. Each camper receives a Futsal shirt and a Futsal ball. Costs vary at different locations from $150-$195 per camp.
In Camp Director Mario Mrakovic's words:
“One constant feedback and kickback that I receive from parents and campers is that they love the camp due to the fine mix of fun and soccer-technique improvement. In all program evaluations, I hear how the camps were friendly, fun and skilled. All the parents always emphasize how their kids received a high level of training and instruction, but also enjoyed themselves and felt more special because of the personal improvements that they made.
"We really like to keep the family atmosphere where everyone enjoys the experience together and kids get to play game after game after game. They just want to be kids and have free play time. I always provide them with most effective and fun games and keep it changing all the time to keep their energy and passion up. I often give them choices as far as which games they wish to play, who they want to play with, etc.
"In reality, kids like to have a say in decisions and they enjoy when they get to be heard. And when the ball starts rolling, kids will be kids with no coaches, managers, parents, siblings and others telling them what to do. They get to make their own choices and decisions on the floor without looking over their shoulder. Kids just want to be kids."
