The AFC.comVision Asia team crowned China futsal championsSaturday, 18 July 2009QINGDAO: Vision Asia’s Qingdao City League (QCL) has taken on national prominence after one of its clubs became Chinese champions in futsal.
Kunpeng FC were one of 10 clubs, out of 700, from 10 cities who qualified for July’s finals in Shanghai. And they emerged from a tough group to win the national title and raise the profile of the QCL.
Qingdao Kunpeng FC owner Wang Kun was delighted with the success of his club and paid tribute to the QCL for insisting on high standards of management.
“The professional standards of management and operations once we joined the Qingdao City League played a key role in our success in this tournament,” he said.
“Our fair play also won the respect of our opponents. Our league provides with a quality platform for competing and for training.
“I hope that the QCL under the guidance of AFC’s Vision Asia will bring more honour to our city.”
Kunpeng defeated Shenzhen 2-0 in a thrilling final that went into extra time and elevated goalkeeper Xue Mingquan to hero status after he saved two penalties.
Earlier they powered through a tough “Group of Death”, beating Xian 6-1, Dalian 2-1 and Wuhan 3-0. Their only dropped points came after a 1-1 draw with Beijing.
They then scored a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Shanghai in the semi-finals as they finished the tournament unbeaten.
