Yorke Peninsula Country TimesFutsal Regional Challenge comes to Minlatonby
Kristin McEvoyTuesday, 04 August 2009This year’s Country Futsal Regional Challenge will be held at Minlaton on August 9, when the best players from each league in the Minlaton-based YP Futsal (indoor soccer played on a court-sized area) competition will take on the best from Jamestown.
The challenge is in the form of a round robin competition.
Last year, after a great day of competition (also against Jamestown), the shield found its way home to Minlaton.
Since its inception four years ago, the YP Futsal League has grown rapidly, from the original 20 teams to 37 teams this season.
Players compete in mixed sides in the Under 11 (Kewell League), Under 14 (Viduka League) and Under 16 (Haddon League) competitions, as well as Men’s and Women’s Leagues.
The popularity of the Minlaton competition, held weekly at the town’s stadium, has grown to the point it is now run over two nights, Monday and Wednesday.
The skills of those involved since the league’s inception have improved greatly, especially considering few sides (if any!) practice due to other sporting commitments.
New players are welcome to the game, although this season is currently in its closing stages.
All representative teams look forward to defending their title and keeping the Country Futsal SA Regional Challenge Shield safely at Minlaton.
