Berundung, Papar emerged as the champion of a 24-hour futsal championship to bring home RM3,000 cash and medals after contesting with 114 teams in the event that began at 2.43pm on Aug 1 and ended at 6.50pm on Sunday.
Second place went to Papar District Council A team who went home with RM2,000 cash and medals followed by Nates team from Kg. Limbahau, Papar with RM1,000 cash while Kelanahan A won fourth place to pocket RM500 cash.
This first ever championship which used a knockout format was held by the Papar Umno Youth Movement in conjunction with its membership recruitment drive and in a bid to attract interest of the youths in Papar to be involved in sports activities.
Its chief Armizan Mohd Ali said they have registered a total of 747 new Umno members as well as voters in the event that also featured badminton and dart competitions. He said they plan to hold this event once every two years as a way to approach the youths and get them involved in healthy activities.
