Shamrock Rovers Official Web SiteFutsal latest: Rovers 5-4 Dublin SantosWednesday, 05 August 2009SHAMROCK ROVERS moved to the top of the Emerald Futsal League (Leinster) with a hard-earned victory over Dublin Santos at the BRL Umbro Arena in Ballymun on Monday night.
Brazilian star and team captain Anderson Nunes was the star of the show for the Hoops as he bagged two important goals that proved decisive.
Dublin Santos are the only team to have taken any points off Rovers so far this campaign, clinching a 6-5 victory on the opening day of the campaign.
Rovers started well and went ahead midway through the first half through Nunes but Santos replied soon after when Hungarian futsal international David Nyari squeezed a shot through from a tight angle.
Another Brazilian star Marco Prudencio restored the Rovers lead just before the break and that lead was extended further when a third South American player found the net, Jeronimo De Freitas, making it 3-1.
Dublin Santos have a couple of Brazilian aces in their ranks two and Mairon Oliveira bagged two goals to bring it back to 3-3.
Nunes restored the Hoops lead once more but this was cancelled out when Nyari found the net direct from a corner via a massive deflection off a Rovers defender.
But the Hoops would not be denied the three points and Prudencio got on the end of a low cross by Nunes to smash home an important winner.
Rovers face second-placed Alpha Futsal Club in their next fixture at the same venue on Saturday at 1.10pm. All Hoops fans are welcome to attend. The venue is behind the Trinity Comprehensive next to Ballymun Garda Station.
