Shamrock Rovers SHAMROCK ROVERS 2 ALPHA FUTSAL CLUB 2Monday, 10 August 2009ROVERS met joint-leaders Alpha Futsal Club in a pulsating tie in Saturday's Emerald Futsal League (Leinster) top of the table clash at the BRL Umbro Arena in Ballymun - and nothing could separate the sides.
The Hoops had secured a 5-2 win against the same opponents - made up of Irish visually-impaired futsal internationals - but this affair turned out to be one of the games of the season so far.
After both keepers had a made a number of impressive stops, it was Rovers that broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Philip McDonagh showed great skill on the left and squared for captain Anderson Nunes to fire home from close range.
McDonagh and Marwan Azimi both came close to extending that lead before the break.
Leading 1-0 at half-time, the game was in Rovers' hands but they had a poor start to the second half and conceded two quick goals with Ciaran O'Brien and Niall Durham finding the net for Alpha.
Rovers showed great resolve to turn it around and Marco Prudencio produced a brilliant strike to level matters.
Despite a host of chances, Rovers couldn't produce a winner and the game ended all square. That result allows Sporting Fingal - still unbeaten and with a game in hand - join both the Hoops and Alpha on 16 points.
Rovers meet Sporting in another top of the table clash on Monday night at the same venue. All Rovers fans are welcome to attend.
SHAMROCK ROVERS - John Somers; Brendan Dawson, Anderson Nunes, Philip McDonagh, Leonardo Da Sousa, Marco Prudencio, Alvin Lawlor, Marwan Azimi.
