Golden ending for the Finns

Finnish champions Golden FT hosted the Uefa Futsal Cup preliminary round group D in Espoo, Finland last weekend.

Host Golden qualified to main round by beating all three opponents in the group.

In the groups last fixture Golden showed class against French champions Roubaix AFS, by winning the deciding match 7-1. The score was 3-0 in less than five minutes – a score which the French side never recovered from.

The host team didn’t pay any courtesy to its guests during the week. In the tournaments opening match the Espoo based club took a 6-2 victory over Scottish champions Fair City Santos. English champions Helvecia and Golden played a tight match on Saturday, but the Finns won by six goals to four.

- It was a fantastic tournament in front of a great home crowd, said Panu Autio, who was voted the best player of the tournament.

Autio is eagerly looking forward to the next round.

- I think we have a good chance of going through to the round of 16, but it will require a lot of work, he added.

Golden will travel to Belgium for the main round. With Golden in the group are host team Action 21 Charleroi, Swedish champions Skovde AIK and Greek champions Athina '90. GFT will try to force itself into the round of 16.

- It is very motivating to face some of the best teams in Europe, but I think we will be ready, said Golden coach Teemu Eksola.
