Solomon Star NewsKurukurus eye Lybia champsSOLOMON Islands National Futsal Team, Kurukuru, has begun their training as they head into their last month of preparations before flying to the confederations championship in Lybia.
National Futsal Coach, Dickson Kadau, said that the boys have already been in training for more than a month and they feel confident about themselves.
He said the boys are in good spirit and are dedicated to training, but adding the team needs some assistance and a sponsorship.
The high-flying Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Futsal champions were invited to take part in the Alfateh Futsal Continental Cup, which is being organised by the Lybian Football Federation.
The tournament will be held from 5-11 October 2009, in Tripoli the capital of Lybia.
Most of the major expenses for the trip including air travel, accommodation and meals are to be met by the host federation.
The winner of the tournament will receive USD$50 000-00 (SBD$ 380 000-00) while bottom placed team will walk away with USD$10 000-00.
The Alfateh Futsal Continental Cup has been approved by FIFA.
According SIFF Media, all the players who were part of the team in the recent OFC Futsal Championship have remained in the squad.
An additional three players have been added to the training squad.
Alfred Punguika and Matthias Saru were also part of the training squad for the 2009 OFC Championship.
Sammy Osifelo, the third addition to the training squad, was a member of the Kurukuru team that took part in the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil in 2008.
