Armidale ExpressNationals for Duval9/09/2009ON AUGUST 25 the Duval high School under 19 boys futsal team travelled to Newcastle to compete in the NNSW State Schools Futsal Championships.
At 9am the following day the boys kicked off against Taree for their first game.
This game was tough resulting in a 5-all draw.
The competition was hard and the draw had changed to give the boys three games in a row.
The next two games were against Newcastle Performing Arts High which they won 8-4 and then Newcastle Grammar - which Duval won 9-4.
Duval finally had a two-game break which affected their momentum as they lost this game 6-3 to Camden Haven, but they followed through with a 9-2 win over Great Lakes.
The boys finished second in the competition which resulted in a rematch with Camden Haven.
This semi-final was nail biting.
The 6-2 final score doesn’t depict how tough and close the game was.
This win cemented the boys a spot at nationals - one of their main goals.
With this relief the boys played Newcastle Grammar School in the final.
This was a very fair and well-played game.
The sportsmanship and mateship between both teams was high which created an extremely entertaining atmosphere.
The Duval boys won 9-2 which saw them crowned State champions.
All team members played exceptionally well.
All boys scored at least three goals each throughout the day with 50 goals scored in total by the team.
Declan Druit played well through the entire day with Scott Straub coming on as an impact player with high energy and drive when required.
Adam Zirkler and Matt Tremayne also put in solid performances with keeper Jaydon Ward stepping up in the finals.
Angus Reckord, who suffered a corked quadriceps in the first game, and Matt Tremayne, who was injured in round five, lifted in the finals for some memorable moments.
The national titles are to be held in Sydney on September 28 and 29.
