Kelliann on the ball for her dream

by Richard Harvey

18th September 2009

JUST over a year ago, Kelliann Milzewski said she wanted to make a difference.

She had just returned home to Maryborough after representing the Australian under-19 team futsal team in Brazil.

During the trip, Milzewski and her team-mates had spent hours being taught the skills of the game by Brazilian coaches, who are regarded as the best in the business.

The now-18-year-old former Aldridge State High student said that at the time that she learnt so much from the experience and she wanted to put into practice what she had been taught.

Now she's got her chance to do just that.

Milzewski, who was picked to tour Brazil after helping Queensland Country win the under-16 national title in Melbourne for the second consecutive year, is just a couple of weeks into doing a one-year traineeship with Vikings Futsal, the state body of the game.

It's a role that will see her travel throughout the Wide Bay region.

Her aim eventually is to become a development officer; a role that will not only help her promote the game here but also put what she has picked up through her talented career to great use.

“It's a perfect opportunity for me - I couldn't have wished for anything more,” said Milzewski, who is also a talented soccer player (she has represented Wide Bay).

“It really is a dream come true for me I can tell you.

“I've always wanted to coach and be able to pass on what I know to young players.

“I want to be able to make difference and maybe help other players reach their goal and play for Queensland and maybe Australia one day like I've done.”

Apart from her Wide Bay duties for Vikings Futsal, Milzewksi will have another important role to play for Queensland next month.

She'll be in charge of the Queensland Country under-14 girls team in the nationals.

“I know what it takes to win at this level so I hope I can guide these girls to doing the same thing,” she said.
