Shamrock Rovers Official Web SiteRovers in futsal semi final Friday, 18 September 2009Rovers' futsal team face their most important game of the season on Monday night at the BRL Umbro Arena in Ballymun when they participate in the first semi-final of the Emerald Futsal League (Leinster).
The Hoops meet Alpha Futsal Club (7.15pm) with the winner going through to the final on Saturday September 16 at the same venue. Sporting Fingal meet Bray/St Joseph's in the other semi-final.
Rovers finished second overall in the league stage of the eight-team competition and have a decent record against Alpha having beaten them 5-2 and drawn 2-2 in their two league games to date.
"This will be a very tough test for us. Alpha deserved their place in the last four and have always given us a real challenge," said Hoops boss Stephen Finn.
"We're hoping to have as close to a full strength squad as possible although our captain Anderson Nunes is out of the country for a couple of days so we'll have to plan without him.
"Shamrock Rovers won the inaugural FAI National League futsal tournament in 2007 so it would be great if we could replicate that success in the first Emerald Futsal League season.
"Some of the players have really developed over the course of the year. Our goalkeeper John Somers has emerged as arguably the best goalkeeper in Irish futsal this season while Anderson, Philip McDonagh, Brendan Dawson and Ian Byrne, when we've had access to him, have all been in tremendous form."
All Rovers fans are welcome to come along and support the lads on Monday evening. The venue is in Trinity Comprehensive schoolgrounds, which is next to Ballymun Garda station.
