UEFA.comSlovakia give finalists food for thoughtSunday 20 September 2009Slovakia got the better of UEFA European Futsal Championship finalists Hungary and the Czech Republic to win a four-team warm-up tournament in Debrecen.
In the event played at the Főnix Arena Debrecen, one of two venues for the finals from 19-30 January, hosts Hungary and fellow contenders the Czech Republic lined up against Slovakia and Poland. Hungary won their semi-final 5-1 against Poland, János Trencsényi scoring in the first half and Zsolt Gyurcsányi, András Angyalos, Norbert Lovas and Viktor Fekete also on target for the home team. However, the Czech Republic fell to Slovakia on penalties after a 3-3 draw.
Poland beat the Czech Republic to third place 4-3, while the final finished 1-1 after regulation time, Hungary's Lovas equalising just before the break. Slovakia were to prevail again on penalties and they made it a double by beating Hungary 7-0 to win the Under-21 title, Poland overcoming the Czech Republic 2-1 to also take bronze. Hungary and the Czech Republic will discover their finals fate in Thursday's draw in Debrecen.
