Futsal program to kick off

6th October 2009

The options for Toowoomba soccer players just keep expanding.

Football Toowoomba's affiliated clubs already account for over 2700 players and that number is expected to increase with the introduction of a futsal competition this month.

While the indoor version of the game already exists under private banners in the region, Football Toowoomba has elected to incorporate the game into its repertoire to increase development opportunities.

Regional Development officer for south-west Queensland Glen Bowman said the new competition was designed to keep the development process going for junior players.

“This new futsal rollout is part of an organised strategic strategy to improve the technical level of our players and to manage football under a unified not-for-profit structure,” Bowman said.

The Futsal Toowoomba program will kick off today and will run for 15 weeks through summer.

It is anticipated that a number of players will be selected to represent south-west Queensland with the ultimate aim of representing Queensland.
