Local Clark gets England call

Thursday 8th October 2009

A FORMER carpenter from Swindon has been selected to represent England in the International Futsal League.

20-year-old Brad Clark, who trains and plays at @Futsal Swindon at Kembrey Park, will be playing in clash against Israel in Hereford on October 10 and 11.

Clark, who had an unsuccessful trial for Swindon Town over the summer, has high hopes of following in the footsteps of world class footballers like Robinho and Fabregas, whose skills were honed playing Futsal.

@Futsal Swindon put Clark forward for an FA talent identification day in July.

And he later received a letter telling him he has beaten off talent from all over the UK to win his place in the England squad.

Clark said: “When I got the letter I was over the moon, I couldn’t believe it because I didn’t know I’d done that well in the trials.

“My family is of course delighted, I’ll be representing my country so it’s a big thing.”

“I have always played a little bit of 5-a-side.

“But it was since I started playing at @Futsal that I’ve found my feet and improved loads.

“I still can’t believe what’s happened though.”

@Futsal Ltd is encouraging budding 5-a-side players like Brad to come along and try their hand at the sport.

Stepping into Futsal late, the England team is rapidly progressing and has ambitions to become one of the world’s top Futsal teams.

@Futsal Ltd Managing Director Frank Rodriguez said: “At the beginning of the year, Brad was just a local lad.

“Then he got involved with Futsal and he’s representing his country.

“It’s nothing short of amazing. We’re extremely proud, and thrilled to have helped him on his journey.”
