Iran beat Guatemala 4-2 in Futsal Confed Cup

Iran's national futsal squad have gained victory in their opening match in the Futsal Confederations Cup underway in Tripoli, Libya.

The Asian champions, coached by Hossein Shams, defeated Guatemala 4-2 on Thursday.

Majid Tikdari, Vahid Shamsaee, Mohammad Taheri and Javad Asghar-Moqaddam scored for Iran.

In another match same day, Uruguay thrashed Solomon Islands 11-1.

The Iranian outfit face Uruguay in their second match of the tournament on Friday evening.

Hosts Libya, Iran, Guatemala, Uruguay, Solomon Islands and Spain have taken part in the event held from 5 to 11 October 2009.

The winner of the tournament is to receive $50,000 while the bottom-placed team will walk away with $10,000.
