Brunei DirectFutsal, fencing droppedBandar Seri Begawan - Two of the initial 12 sports to be contested in this year's 3rd Borneo Games from Nov 29 to Dec 6 hosted by Brunei Darussalam, have been dropped due to lack of participation.

National Stadium yesterday, it was confirmed that futsal and fencing have been scratched off the competition
During the meeting chaired by Hj Mohammad bin Panglima Asgar Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah, the Director of Youth and Sports, it was learned that only two teams want to take part in futsal as well as fencing.
For a sport event to be contested, a mandatory of three teams must compete. Therefore, it was decided that futsal and fencing would not be included in this year's Borneo Games.
In addition to the various local national sporting associations, the head of delegation from Sabah, Sarawak, Federal Territory of Labuan, Kalimantan Timur, and Malacca, the host of Sukma 2010, were also present at the meeting.
One of the major items of the agenda being discussed in the meeting was the football event. After Brunei Darussalam Football Association has been suspended by FIFA, there were worries that majority of the participating countries and provinces will not join the football event.
However, football will be contested as Federal. Territory of Labuan and Kalimantan Timur have confirmed their participation.
With the teams from Labuan and Kalimantan Timur as well as Brunei Darussalam, the football event has received enough participation to be included in the Borneo Games.
Other sports that will be contested include badminton, lawn bowling, cue sports, gasing (top spinning), hockey, athletics, pencak sepak takraw and tennis.
The meeting also saw Federal Territory of Labuan passed on the right to host the next Borneo Games in 2011 to Kalimantan Timur which it accepted graciously.
The Borneo Games act as a platform in the development of sports among Brunei Darussalam, Sarawak, Sabah, Federal Territory of Labuan and Kalimantan. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
