Middlesbrough Futsal Club
Play for Boro

Middlesbrough Futsal Club are holding an open trial session on 18th October at Thornaby Pavilion from 5pm - 6pm. Middlesbrough were crowned champions of the FA Futsal League North recently and are looking for players for season 2010, as they look to mount their defence of the league title. Can you be Teesside’s next futsal star?

Futsal is 5-a-side football played indoor on a hard surface with a less bouncy size 4 ball. Originating in South America, it is a prime tool for developing football players, but is also a huge sport in its own right. In England it is a growing sport but is well and truly on the way up. Middlesbrough are one of the biggest clubs in England, and their recent victory is their first title. They will now compete against the best teams in the country for the national title.

Should they win, a place in the UEFA Futsal Cup is up for grabs (the UEFA Champions' League of futsal). In many European countries futsal is a professional sport and Matthew Wootton, Boro's top goalscorer this season in all competitions, will become the first professional player from Middlesbrough when he signs for Italian side Cosenza this week.

As well as losing Wootton to Italy, Boro will be without Nick Hamblin and Ryon Leyshon next season. Ryon Leyshon is Boro's third England international making his debut at the weekend against Israel. The loss of three important players, however, won't prevent Boro from improving on their successful season insists manager Damon Shaw.

"Ryon, Nick and Matty have been instrumental this season, and will be in the playoffs, so the losses will be a blow to Boro. But last season we lost four important players, including two who went on to play for England and we've gone and had our best season ever. The natural talent in Teesside is up there with the best in the country, as we have seen with the players coming through for Middlesbrough FC. I am confident our production of world class futsal players will continue and with the right attitude and committment to the club, we could see the first Teessider in the England squad very soon! Futsal is set to boom in this country and I want Middlesbrough to be at the forefront of that."

Anybody is welcome to attend the trials at Thornaby Pavilion on 18th October and it could be the start of many opportinuties, such as playing in Europe, playing for England and winning national titles or even getting signed for a team in a different country! There is a small charge of £2 to cover hall hire, but this includes a ticket for the Erreà International Futsal Cup, which kicks off straight after the trials.
