The AFC.comKuwait squeeze into Futsal semi-finalsFriday, 16 October 2009DOHA: Kuwait beat Iraq 2-1 in Group B to reach the semi-finals of the AFC Futsal Championship 2010 West Zone qualifiers on Thursday.
In Group A, Lebanon beat Qatar 8-3 to finish first with both teams reaching the semi-finals ahead of Bahrain.
The Kuwaiti victory means all three teams in Group B – Iraq, Kuwait and Jordan – finished on three points. Iraq and Kuwait qualify for the last four on goal difference.
Usually in AFC competitions, teams on equal points are first separated by head-to-head results.
However, this only applies when two sides have the same number of points. In this case, there are three. Therefore, goal difference is used.
Iraq top the group because of their earlier 6-2 victory over Jordan, who on Wednesday beat Kuwait 2-1.
Kuwait were helped by an own goal from Iraq’s Abdul Razzaq Labid in the 27th minute. Naser Al Mesned scored Kuwait’s other goal with Hashim Al Saraf on target for Iraq.
For Lebanon, Khaled Takaji scored a hat-trick and Hayssam Atwi fired a double against Qatar, who got goals from Rashid Al Boinin, Ahmad Al Hashemi and Eisa Al Kubaisi.
Also scoring for Lebanon were Kassem Kawsan, Ali El Homsi and Serge Said.
In the semi-finals, Iraq take on Qatar and Lebanon play Kuwait. The top three teams qualify for next year’s finals.
