Middlesbrough Futsal Club
Futsal masters come to Teesside

Universidad Catolica Futsal Club of Uruguay, where futsal was invented, descend on Teesside on Sunday to take on the FA Futsal League North Champions Middlesbrough Futsal Club in the Errea International Futsal Cup opening game at Thornaby Pavilion.

The Uruguayans, boasting three International players, are on a European tour and come to Teesside after playing in a tournament in Sweden. Chippenham Futsal Club, led by Luke Ballinger, England captain and East Coast Futsal Club make up the four-team tournament, which promises to showcase futsal of the highest quality.

Middlesbrough play the FA FUTSAL LEAGUE TITLE PLAYOFFS next weekend and playing a team of this quality will be a perfect warm up says manager Damon Shaw. “Universidad Catolica have some world class players, three of which just helped Uruguay to a second place finish in the futsal version of the Confederations Cup, and whatever the result against them, we will be able to learn a lot and it will be a great chance for local people to take in some live international futsal.”

There are group games every evening from Sunday to Tuesday and the final is on Wednesday. Matches kick off at 6pm and 8pm, and entry is £1 per day, or free for selected schools and colleges.
