Third place was as good as gold

THEIR goal was to be the best and, in the end, only two teams were better statewide.

Kings Langley Public School has finished third in the state cup knockout girls' soccer competition, after making the NSW futsal cup quarter finals earlier this year.

Kings Langley qualified for the knockout finals in Newcastle by beating Parklea 4-0, Baulkham Hills North 7-0, Crestwood 9-0, Carlingford 3-0, Glenbrook 3-0, Panania 2-1 and Blayney 2-0.

They lost their semi-final to Harbord Public School 4-1 after the teams had been locked 1-1 at halftime.

Brittney Clifford scored the winning goal as Kings Langley beat Hamilton South 1-0 in the third-place play-off.

At the end of it all, girls just want to have fun.

As player Izzy Church put it: ``We were overjoyed when we came third. It was lots of fun.''
