Az NewsAzeri futsal champions start with Elite Round winby
Elmir AliyevFri 20 November 2009Araz futsal team Azerbaijani champions Araz yesterday beat Latvia's FK Nikars Riga 7:1 in their opening game in the UEFA Cup's Elite Round D being held in Baku.
Four teams are competing in Elite Round D which is being played at the Sport Palace in Baku.
Vitali Borisov and Santos both scored two goals for Araz, while Rodriguez Paz , Sergio Luis and Vitali Borisov bagged one apiece, News.Az reports.
In the other opening round match Kairat Almaty of Kazakhstan beat Athina '90 Athens 3:2.
Araz will play Athina '90 on 20 November, while Kairat Almaty will play FK Nikars Riga.
The winner of the Elite Round will qualify for the quarter-finals of the UEFA Futsal Cup.

Elmir AliyevSat 21 November 2009Araz futsal team The matches of the second round of UEFA Cup Elite Round in futsal have been played in Baku at the Sport Palace.
According to News.Az, Azeri champion Araz gained an overwhelming victory in the second round. Latvian Nikars was defeated in the starting game – 7:1, while Greek Athina’90 was humbled in the second match 7:0.
In another match of the second round Kazakh Kairat won over Nikars – 3:2. Before the last round Araz and Kairat have 6 points each. In the decisive match for the Final Four these teams will play against each other. Araz will have to play at least a draw game to take the first place in the group.

Elmir AliyevMon 23 November 2009Araz futsal team By winning all three matches of the UEFA Cup Elite Round, the Azeri futsal champion, Araz, reached the Final Four.
According to News.Az, after winning over Latvian Nikars (7:1) and Greek Athina’ 90 (7:0), Araz had to play a draw at maximum in a decisive match against Kazakh Kairat to take the first place in the group and reach the decisive stage. Yet the Azeri champion won with a score of 4:3 and fulfilled its task successfully.
Araz will have to play against the strongest teams of Europe – Luparense (Italy), Benfica (Portugal), Interviu Madrid (Spain) - in the struggle for the UEFA Cup in April 2010.
