KUALA LUMPUR: Four top awards are not being given out this year during the AFC Annual Awards.

With no women’s senior team competitions held in 2009 and the AFC Futsal Championship rescheduled to a one-in-two years calendar, the awards for AFC Women’s Player of the Year and AFC Women’s Coach of the Year as well as the AFC Futsal Team of the Year and AFC Futsal Player of the Year will not be awarded.

The first ever AFC Futsal Club Championship, which was due to be held in Iran, was also postponed to next year.

However, with two teenage women’s competitions (AFC U-16 and U-19 women’s Championships) taking place this year, the AFC Youth Player of the Year (women’s) makes for an interesting tussle between current holder Mana Iwabuchi of Japan, and Koreans Ji So-yun and Kim Da-hye.

The AFC Women’s Player of the Year last year went to Homare Sawa of Japan while Ri Kum-suk was the first runner-up.

The AFC Futsal Player of the Year was the evergreen Iranian maestro Vahid Shamsaee.
