WELSH FOOTBALL TRUST MULTI-CULTURAL CUP FINAL REPORT

Glamorgan Academics Futsal Club 4 – Cardiff Warriors 2

Glamorgan Academics Futsal Club celebrated winning their first silverware of the season by claiming the inaugural Welsh Football Trust’s Multi-Cultural Futsal Cup on Sunday 15th November 2009.
In the final Glamorgan faced skilful Futsal debutants Cardiff Warriors in a keenly contested affair. Warriors took an early lead after a mid range low shot through the middle of the Glamorgan defence. Glamorgan however reacted quickly, equalising within a minute after the excellent Vinny North posted up for Joao Sacramento to finish. Glamorgan were soon in front through Zac Lyndon-Jones, whose powerful shot from the right almost broke the net.

The game was a very end to end affair. Glam defended excellently against their very skilful and fast opponents, with first year player Matt Croft again standing out. As Warriors sought an equaliser Academics’ keeper Bernardo Meira was forced to pull off two outstanding saves, tipping one on to the post, before Glam countered to take a 3-1 lead, when the ever composed Ricardo Santos put through Richard Arif Horlock who rounded the keeper with his quick feet. Glam looked to kill off the game hitting the post several times through the impressive Rhys Lewis and North.

Sloppy defending by Kevin Green however, allowed Warriors back into the game. After that setback Glamorgan’s experience then started to really show, and a fouth goal by Sacramento finished off the game. After the final whistle a proud Glamorgan Captain Gareth Cobb lifted the club’s first trophy of the season.
