UEFA.comRussia double up against Czech RepublicWednesday 2 December 2009Russia underlined their status as one of the favourites for next month's UEFA European Futsal Championship with two friendly victories away against fellow finalists the Czech Republic.
First winIn the first game, Sergei Sergeev gave Russia – without the likes of Cirilo and Vladislav Shayakhmetov – a ninth-minute lead after a fine team move and Konstantin Timoshchenkov doubled their advantage before the break following a combination with newcomer Robinho and Sergeev. Jan Janovský pulled one back in the 26th minute but Russia won 2-1.
Skorovich pleasedA day later Russia prevailed 3-0. Timoshchenkov scored in the 19th second, volleying in Robinho's pass. After the interval Pavel Chistopolov and Robinho completed the victory. Russia coach Sergei Skorovich said: "The second half showed that our team can demonstrate their class, even in the absence of seemingly irreplaceable players. We now have several candidates for each position. That is inspiring, but at the same time creates the problem of choosing the best."
Antwerp tripHis side complete their preparations in a four-team Antwerp tournament on 28 and 29 December against Belarus and Belgium. In the finals in Hungary, Russia begin in Group C on 20 January against Slovenia and meet Serbia four days later. The Czech Republic's first Group A game is against Azerbaijan on 21 January and two days later they meet the hosts.
