Belfast Telegraph Cliftonville and Crusaders are out to halt the Big TwoFriday, 11 December 2009Belfast's first Futsal final could feature a Big Two clash.
Linfield, Glentoran, Cliftonville and Crusaders will battle it out on Sunday at Ballysillan Leisure Centre in a bid to be crowned Belfast’s first Futsal champions.
Belfast City Council, in partnership with the Irish Football Association, is holding its first ever women’s Futsal tournament, a version of five-a-side football played with a lighter ball and aimed at attracting more women to play the fast fitness sport.
There will also be a special Futsal display at Sunday’s tournament.
Eight teams took part in a knock-out competition last month and it is hoped to start a new Futsal league for local teams in the New Year as interest in the sport which originated in Portugal and Spain continues to grow.
Organiser Lynne Wilson said: “There is a lot of skill involved in Futsal which is played with a lighter different shaped ball.
“We want to encourage more women to take it up because it is a great way to keep fit and is very social.
“Several male players are coming along to support their women’s section so hopefully it will be a good day for everyone.”
