Solomon Star NewsFutsal on a mission to winBy
Charles KadamanaOur National U-12 and U-15 Futsal teams yesterday departed for Australia with a mission to win the Football Federation Australia (FFA) National Futsal Championship schedule for 11th-15th January.
The teams have been preparing since June last year and left a message with the country that they are more than confident to reach the finals and win the prestigious trophy from Australia.
The U-15, which participated in the same championship last year, is now fixing their eyes on their rivals who defeated them last year for revenge.
Last year, they narrowly lost to New South Wales in the semi final but this year they said they have nothing to lose.
Head of Delegation Danny Belo prior to their departure told Star Sports that they are confident and their main aim is to set a standard during the competition. He said the boys will treat each game as a final.
“We are prepared and we will make sure we bring back the cup”, he said.
Coached Tony Wale also sounded the same sentiments stating that his boys are fit and they have impressed him over the few months during their trainings.
Meanwhile, as for the U-12 boys they are also looking at setting new records for the country.
Coached by experienced coach Dickson Kadau and John Fiumae the young lads will be a team to watch during the championship.
Dickson Kadau is one of the most experienced Futsal coaches in the country.
He was part of the World Cup team in 2008 and in 2009 who led the National Team to victory in the Oceania championships and a very impressive display at the Alfateh Championship in Libya.
Both teams are supported and funded by the Solomon Islands Sports Coalition (SISC).
The SISC is working in partnership with the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) to develop young futsal players.
Funding for the travel and accommodation of the U-15 team was met by the Dural Sports & Leisure Centre in Australia, which has worked closely with the SISC in the past.
On the other hand, funding for the U-12 team is funded by SISC, parents of the players, SIFF and the Dural Sports & Leisure Centre which will also contribute towards accommodating the team.
A Total of 121 teams consisting of more than 2000 futsal players will be competing in the championship.
The FFA National Futsal Championship is the biggest National football tournament in Australia, attracting teams from Australia, New Zealand and Solomon Islands.
