Newly formed Sheffield FC Futsal Club ready for big kick-off.

The FA National Futsal League North starts this Sunday for its third year, and the newly merged Sheffield FC Futsal are hoping for success in the third season of the competition.

The league was set up by The Football Association in 2008, with the hope for the game to progress allowing stronger teams to compete within a fully administered league structure. The Sheffield & Hallamshire FA administers the league, which is made up of teams from Sheffield, Grimsby, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Oldham and Tranmere.

Both the Sheffield FC and Sheffield & Hallamshire FA Futsal teams have achieved relative success in the last two years on the National Futsal competitive stage, but for the new 2010 season the decision has been taken to merge both teams together to form Sheffield FC Futsal.

The amalgamation will ensure that the team has a pool of the very best players and coaching staff, as well as also making the team more financially viable through the sharing of resources.

This new working partnership will also strengthen the development of Futsal in Sheffield and the surrounding region at all levels. This multi organisation development programme includes the award winning Schools Futsal Development programme delivered by Sheffield & Hallamshire FA, the creation of adult leagues and supporting the development of the Sheffield Hallam University Futsal Club, who compete in the British Universities and Colleges Futsal competition.

James Hope-Gill, Chief Executive of the Sheffield & Hallamshire FA, said “This is a really exciting time for the development and future of Futsal, not only in our region but in England as a whole.

"The creation of the national league has taken Futsal to a higher more competitive level and provides a solid foundation for the junior Futsal players of today with an exit route to Futsal as an additional playing opportunity, with teams such as the newly merged Sheffield FC Futsal team and other opportunities at University and Colleges, and adult leagues across the region.”

The FA Futsal League North Season runs from January to June. If you are interested in watching Sheffield FC Futsal in action they play fixtures at Concord Leisure Centre, Sheffield.
