Learning curve for Futsal aces

SCARBOROUGH-based East Coast Futsal continued their progression with a creditable performance against National League side Leeds.
The East coast squad, who lost their first game 4-1, before drawing 1-1 in the second, fielded former Snainton player Steve Brennan, Scarborough Athletic’s James Webb, Scarborough Academy’s Luke Foster, as well as Stuart Wallace, Ryan Hunter and Joe Sunter, who are all from Scarborough.

It was always going to be difficult for East Coast because Leeds had recently appointed former Brazilian Futsal pro Junior Roberti, and after just five minutes they slipped two goals behind.

They soon hit back though with a low left-footed shot from 15-year-old Kieran Link, but despite a couple of good efforts from Foster, Leeds proved to be too strong.

East Coast lost Webb early in the second game through injury, so he moved into goal, but despite this, the Scarborough side took the lead when Brennan volleyed home.

Foster and Wallance went close to extending the advantage, but with just a handful of minutes left Leeds hit back to level the game up.

Player coach Brennan said: “I was very pleased with our defending and team play which has improved so much in 10 months.

“We were playing a National league side with three years experience at that level and held our own which is great news for later this year when we can get another crack at qualifying for the National League.

“It is encouraging to have lads from both Scarborough football teams interested as well as the two main colleges in town. Luke Foster is also the first player to come through our youth sessions with 4Youth in town which is great news for the future.”
