UMBRO Futsal Awards 2009 - 10th Edition by Futsalplanet.com.
So, which is the
Best National Team of the World in the year 2009? Let's move to Asia, where the persian kings of
Iran live! Also, we have decided to dedicate a special mention to the
Brazilian Women National Team, brilliant example of how entertaining women futsal can be if developed in a worthy way!
Continuous improvementWe don't tell nothing new at all if we mention the
Iranian dominance in the Asian continent: the persian kings keep on denying Japan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and all the other opponents with ambitious intentions. The interesting point come from the new role of
Iran in worldwide futsal, starting since the World Cup 2008 and going on with brilliant results in the recently ended year: Iran wants more. Results are by IRIFF side, the Heidarian heritage has not been wasted and new names of young and talented players always come out on the international stage. Great expectations.
Libyan joyAfter missing an historical semifinal in the October World Cup 2008, Iran opened the new year with a tie and a win in Slovenia: not a bad start. But all eyes were on the persian stars when they were able to force
Brazil to a 2-2 tie at the end of March, thanks to the decisive goal by
Majid Tikdarinejad. One of the highest moment of the iranian 2009 went in July, when only Brazil could deny the Hossein Shams guys from a magnificent triumph in the international tournament
Grand Prix. The prestigious win was anyway ready to be celebrated and came in the first ever
Confederations Cup played in Libya: a 100% winning tournament for
Shamsaee and mates, who had no mercy of Solomon Islands, Guatemala, Uruguay and hosts Libya.
Recognized valueThough the sport season of Iran ended again vs Slovenia with a double win at home, and after celebrating the Under 23 selection triumph in the Asian Indoor Games, there was a final chance to shine for Iran, just after Christmas. We refer to the
World Stars selection's couple of games vs Brazil, in which
Mostafa Nazari and
Vahid Shamsaee were among the main characters of the event, under the guide of the iranian futsal committe president
Abbas Torabian.
Women dominanceMoving to women futsal, it seemed unfair not to mention a nation able to win the South American title for three times in a row, under the guide of three different coaches. That's the case of the
Brazilian Women National Team, which realized the impressive hat trick in Campinas, showing a great level of futsal. Work on women futsal, results are ready to come!
