Yellow AdvertiserGet a taste of Futsal and test your skills on the ballMonday, 11 January 2010NAMES are being taken in Essex for a beginners course to an activity which is taking the nation by storm.
A three-hour Beginners to Futsal Course is scheduled to take place on Sunday, January 31, at the University of Essex in Colchester, held by the Essex County Football Association.
Futsal is quick and dynamic and places high demands on fitness, mostly played indoors using hockey-sized goals and a size four ball with reduced bounce.
The pitch features touchlines and players can venture anywhere, including the penalty areas, as well as allowing play over head height.
The absence of rebound boards and slight amendments in the laws favour skilful, creative play rather than the typically full-blooded English style. Players are often placed in tight, pressure situations, challenging their technique.
Last year’s similar event was sold out in Redbridge, with few places up for grabs on the upcoming course, between 10am and 1pm.
Lana Gillard, Essex County FA Education Development Officer, said: “Futsal is growing locally and nationally and this course is a great opportunity for anyone to find out more about the game and how it can benefit a player’s development.
“It’s also a great tool to use at this time of the year when teams are training indoors to keep their players sharp as the tempo of the game is very high.
“We ran a similar course last year which proved very successful and places were taken quickly.”
There are no pre-requisites for attendance, apart from all applicants to be at least 16 years old.
Booking forms are available to download from www.essexfa.com and return it, along with the £15 course fee to Lana Gillard at the Essex County Football Association, The County Office, Springfield Lyons Approach, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 5LB.
