Paire sweep in futsal league

Paire Football Club closed out the 2009 season with a sweep of the NMIFA Women's Futsal Fall League, ruling both the competitive and recreational divisions last month.

Paire claimed the championship in the competitive league after edging MP United Football Club in the point system. Both teams ended the double-round robin tournament with 6-2-0 win-draw-loss records, but Paire took the title after scoring more goals (30) against MP United (28).

“MP United's competitive team was excellent so, I looked forward to the huge challenge each time we played them. We tied each time despite both team's efforts and it came down to goal differentials in the end,” said Paire player Brenda Schultz.

Joining Schultz on the team were Becca Newman, Emily Gries, Zoe Jewell, Patricia Coleman, Sami Birmingham-Babauta, Connie Camacho, Stephanie Camacho, Summer Palacios, Amber Roberts, and Vanessa Pritchard.

“Each game was a challenge. Each team had their unique playing style and it was always difficult. Every game was hard,” Jewell said.

Despite these difficulties, both Schultz and Jewell agreed Paire had a good season in the futsal league and they hope to continue playing as a team and developing more young talents this year.

“Paire had an excellent season in the competitive league. We grew as a team and learned a lot. One of the most exciting things about our team was seeing our youth players shine. It makes me very excited about what the future holds in women's football in the Northern Mariana Islands,” Schultz said.

“Hopefully, the Paire women's teams will grow and continue to excel. I would really like to see more new and young players coming out and joining us, and developing their skills,” Jewell added.

Paire's new players suited up in the recreational league and topped Matansa Football Club, Independents Football Club, and MP United Football Club 1 and 2 to win the championship.

Paire's recreational squad, which finished the league with a 7-1 win-loss record, had Maria Ornez, Angie Mister, Leanne Loan, Rhonda Camacho, Linda Anastacio, and Temary Gramlich as members.

With their success in the futsal league and other tournaments, Paire aims to continue recruiting players.

“We will focus on recruiting players for our youth programs. We have several National Team players who volunteer to coach including standout players Arkie Resauro, Steve McKagan, Jason Schroeder, and Patricia Coleman. Our girls U18 team looks great so I am optimistic we will expect great things in the future for Paire,” Schultz said.

She added these triumphs would not be possible without the help of Docomo.

“We really appreciate our sponsor, Docomo. Through its generous donation, we have been able to cut costs for our youth program so every child can afford to play. Thank you Docomo,” Schultz said.
