South Cheshire College offers futsal courses to students

Jan 13 2010

by Will Harris

STUDENTS at South Cheshire College are urged to kick off New Year fitness drives by taking part in a different form of football.

Futsal sessions start on Friday, between noon and 1pm in the sports hall at the Dane Bank Avenue campus.

Futsal is a variant of the traditional 11-a-side football and is played indoors on a hard surface, using sidelines, backlines, a smaller ball and taller and narrower goals.

Students who take part in the ten-week sessions every Friday can also put their skills to the test when the college enters the British Colleges Sport Northwest Futsal tournament on Wednesday, February 3.

South Cheshire College was awarded Focus College status by British Colleges Sport and the Football Association in November.

Further education sports co-ordinator Martyn Kiel said: “Although it’s different to other forms of football, it’s a fun game and will certainly help students from different courses step up their fitness levels.”

For details about sports courses or enrichment activities at the college, phone 01270 654654 or visit www.s-cheshire.ac.uk.
