Futsal Comes to Bucklers Mead School, Yeovil

Pupils at Bucklers Mead Secondary School have recently started up a new school Futsal Club on Wednesday lunchtimes and Wednesday after school for all year groups to attend. At the first lunchtime session this week over 20 pupils turned up, with pupils from all year groups.
The school first tasted Futsal last year when the school’s u14s won the Somerset Schools Futsal Competition and went onto the FA Futsal National Youth Championships at Sheffield. With the introduction of this new club they and the other year groups hope to repeat the success last year this time round.
The school are being coach by Somerset FA’s Football Development for South Somerset, Sion Kitson who is also Head Coach of national side Team Bath Futsal Club. ‘This is a fantastic opportunity for the pupils of Bucklers Mead School. It is a football crazy school and I think they will learn a huge amount by playing Futsal not only to help those develop who play football to develop their technical ability but also for those that attend who don’t play as much sport as Futsal is great at developing an individual’s physical attributes as well as just being so much fun to play. The young players are really keen to develop Futsal and with time we hope the school can become a bit of force not just locally but nationally.’
The shorter lunchtime sessions will be used mainly for quick games and will be structured into an interschool Futsal League for the pupils. The longer after school sessions will be used to introduce the game of Futsal to the young players in more depth with the aim to create new school Futsal teams at u12s, u14s and u16s to enter them into the South Somerset Schools Futsal Festival in Easter providing them with more opportunities to play this exciting game.
