Leeds looking to get first points on the board in Futsal League.

Leeds Futsal Club face Sheffield FC in their second FA National Futsal North fixture of the season this weekend, looking to put their first points of the season on the board.

The Yorkshire side kicked off their season with a disappointing 7-2 defeat to last season’s league winners Middlesbrough and will be keen to avoid slipping towards the wrong end of the table with the new season only in its infancy.

However, Leeds did start their preparations for the Sheffield clash with a friendly win over city rivals Leeds Met University. With a depleted squad, including several reserves and U18s, Leeds FC ran out more comfortable winners than the 5-3 scoreline suggested.

With Sheffield touted as one of this season’s league favourites, Leeds’ credentials will again be tested to their limits.

New manager Junior Roberti has been busy in pre-season building a squad he optimistically believes is capable of challenging for a play-off place. After two seventh place finishes, Leeds will need to register a positive result early on to avoid being sucked towards the bottom end of the table once again.

Prior to the game at the Sports Centre, Leeds University, Leeds FC’s second team will face East Coast FC, from Scarborough, to whet fans’ appetites before the big kick-off.

David Smeathers, club media officer and player, said: “Sheffield will be a big test for us this early in the season. Junior has worked tirelessly to mould us into a more competitive outfit this season and it’s games like this that will see how far we’ve come in the past few months.

“After the win over Leeds Met, the squad is feeling confident we can register our first points and start pushing towards the play-offs.”
