We are on track: Ali

Friday, February 05, 2010

Fiji Football Association Technical Director Saiyad Ali believes Fiji is on track for a good outing at the upcoming Oceania Football Confederation and World Futsal Championship qualifiers.

Ali told Fiji FA media the three-day national futsal trial which concludes tomorrow at the Tattersall Leisure Centre is a perfect start to their campaign.

The national futsal commission has set their sights on winning the OFC Championships and later qualifying for the World Championships.

"Everything is going our way so far," Ali said.

"We had to start somewhere and as far as I know we never had trials like this before. The technical department and the whole of futsal commission were never involved. There was no real preparation for any national futsal team before a championship," he said.

"Things have changed; we have the technical officials, futsal commission and players with interest here," Ali said.

The technical director also says discipline would be a key factor in their selection. Ali added players would need to prove their worth in order to be considered for selection.

"All the players will be given an equal chance whether they are from north, west or south. Anyone who meets the requirements we want then they will definitely be in the team.

"Discipline will be a very important factor as well. I do not want to prepare a player for twelve months and in the final stages he does something wrong. We have made that clear to the players from day one. If they want to be in the team they have to maintain their discipline," Ali said.
