Mayor's Futsal Cup Championship postponed to Feb 21

Tuesday, February 09, 2010

Kota Kinabalu: City Hall's 3rd Mayor's Futsal Cup Championship, which was originally scheduled to kick-off on February 13 at the KK Futsal Arena here, this year, has been postponed until February 21.

According to its organising chairman, Alijus Sipil, registered teams had called for the decision to delay competition as it would clash with the Chinese New Year celebrations.

"Many teams urged us to delay the tournament until after Chinese New Year and I think it would be fair to accommodate their request.

"Postponing the tournament would also give other interested teams more time to register for the tournament. We have pushed the registration dateline to February 17.

"This would actually support our objective to have more teams take part in this year's tournament than in previous years. Our target is to have 40 teams taking part. Last year there were 30," said Alijus.

The Championship, which would be held in conjunction with the 10th City Day celebration is among other programmes City Hall has organised for the anniversary celebration.

This year's tournament would allow teams to have only two former state or former national players on their squad.

Current state or national players are not allowed to play for any team.

A total of RM9,600 worth of prizes will be given away including RM2,000 for the winning team and RM1,500 for runner-up, while third and fourth placed teams will receive RM1,000 and RM800 respectively.

There will also be prizes for losing teams in the plate event where the winner will receive RM1,500 and runner-up RM1,000, while third and fourth placed teams will receive RM800 and RM500 respectively.

An additional cash prize of RM500 will be given to the winner of the Challenge Trophy event where the winner of the main pool will play against the winner of the loser's pool for the overall winner's title.

Those interested to join can get entry forms from City Hall or KK Futsal Arena. Registration fee per team is RM250.
