Coff's Coast AdvocateFutsal players pack their bags10th February 2010 IT hasn’t taken long for the popular indoor sport of futsal to start creating opportunities for the talented young players on the Coffs Coast.
Half a dozen local footballers are packing their bags for overseas tours after being selected for various Australian Vikings teams.
Coffs Harbour Senior College student Raffe Brennan will be the first of the group to get his passport stamped after gaining selection in the under-19s team that will tour China at the end of this month.
Joshua Rees of Christian Community School, Samuel Jarrett of Bishop Druitt College and Robert Marshall of Bellingen High School have all been selected in the under 16s Australian Boys Vikings Select team for an extensive tour of Brazil during the month of May.
Maggie Mills and Kanisha Phillips-Cooke both from Bellingen High School were also selected for the girls’ team on the same tour.
But playing for their school is not the only way that talented young players on the Coffs Coast can be selected for these tours. The region has clubs at Sportz Central, Bellingen High School and Macksville Recreation Centre.
All of the players who are participating in these competitions are eligible to be selected for representative duties for futsal which could see them selected on these Family Friendly International Tours.
This talented group were given this opportunity by competing in the Vikings Futsal Regional Titles which gives them a chance to be identified from an early stage to compete for Northern NSW at a national level where from there they have the chance to be selected in one of the many International Tours that Vikings Futsal offer throughout the year for players aged 13 up to 19.
Tours take place in many countries like the United Kingdom, United States of America, Brazil, Chile, Argentina Thailand, China and New Zealand.
If you would like more information on how to get your school involved or would like to sign a team up to any of the competitions that are run in the area then contact Ashley Collins on 0458 201 132.
