The FA.comBusiness as usual for HelveciaBy
Bob LeedsWednesday, 10 February, 2010A round-up from the first few weeks of The FA National Futsal League South.
The FA National Futsal League South is well under way, with cuurent champions Helvecia carrying on from where they left off with two wins and scoring 20 goals whilst conceding just two.
Head Coach Ronaldo Negrao, reflecting on his team’s excellent start, commented: “Although we have lost one or two key players from last season, the spine of the team remains the same and we have also added the experience of Wesley Silva from London United, so I am hopeful for another good season.”
Hot on their heels are Spartans FC, a newly formed club made up from the 2008 FA National Futsal Play-off champions Ipswich Wolves and the 2008 Southern Champions FC White Bear. They too have had the perfect start, and will no doubt be chasing Helvecia all the way over the course of the season.
Last season’s runners-up were Genesis FC, but they have had an early season setback by losing two out of their first three matches. Genesis, who are comparatively new to the game of Futsal, took the division by storm last time around and were the only side to beat treble winners Helvecia with their mixture of good technique and fast, enthusiastic, attacking Futsal taking the division by surprise.
However, manager Joe Toko feels that teams have become wise to their tactics this season and said: “Although we are still scoring goals, we seem to be leaking them as well, which is something we didn’t do last year.”
The league is once again lighting up the venues though, with players from all over Europe and South America playing exiting Futsal.
