Gerard Walsh13th February 2010TOP Warwick all-round sportsman Ricky Sinkins has made the Australian under-19 futsal team.
Sinkins first played futsal at Warwick State High School in Year 8 and has since played club futsal at WIRAC.
He played with Warwick High at the Australasian Champion of Champions in 2007 when his team came fifth.
Sinkins first made a South West regional team in 2006.
He made his first Queensland team in 2008 in the under-19 age group but the trip to the nationals was cancelled as some team members suffered injuries and the team withdrew.
Sinkins made up for this disappointment last year when he again made the Queensland U19 side which travelled to Sydney for the nationals last month.
Queensland made the semi-finals and Sinkins was the leading goal scorer for his team with 10 goals, one-third of the goals scored by his team.
Sinkins now has a chance to travel to San Francisco on an international futsal tour with the Australian under-19 team in November.
He will be away for 16 nights and is one of only two Queenslanders in the national team.
As well as futsal, Sinkins plays football for the Warwick Wolves in premier division and toured Japan with the Warwick colts in 2008.
“It is pretty exciting to make the Australian futsal team,” Sinkins said.
“The trip itself will be a great experience.
While he isn’t carried away with the possibility of playing the sport professionally, he would love to play futsal at higher levels.
