Solomon Star NewsRagomo featured in fundraiser matchWednesday, 17 February 2010Solomon Island Futsal ambassador and star Elliot Ragomo was featured in the Sherry Challenge to raise money for the Sherry Family on Sunday.
Sherry family tragically drowned during a a family holiday in South Ballina.
To raise money the Futsal Community was out in force to help raise some money and watch some quality Futsal with four games played throughout the day.
Reports reaching Star Sports said the day started with an Academy game between Sydney City Eagles and Mascot Vipers.
With plenty of talent on display for both sides this game was action packed which kept the fans entertained.
Sydney City won the match 3-0 with goals to John Moribito, Dimitrios Petratos and Xane Zaineddine.
The second match was an under 12 boys game with Sydney City Eagles taking on Campbelltown City Quake.
Sydney City started well and hit the post no fewer 4 times in an entertaining first half. In the second half Quake upped their enthusiasm and came back in to the contest which saw them take the lead thanks to Brandon Clissold with a cracking right foot effort.
Sydney City could not find a reply and Quake ran out winners 1-0 thanks to Clissold strike.
The third game saw the NSW Futsal Referees verse the NSW Premier/Super League coaches.
This light hearted game was very entertaining with both sides being kept in toe by Robert Foti, Marcelo Bortone (both players).
The coaches dominated the game and played some quality Futsal at times, with Erkin Osman, Shiska Filopovic turning back the clock and proving they still can play with some style.
The coaches run out victors 7-2.
The Main event saw the Australian Futsalroos take on NSW Thunder which featured local star Elliot Ragomo.
This was the last game for the Futsalroos before they depart for the AFC Futsal Championship ASEAN Zone qualifiers.
NSW Thunder is also preparing for the AFC Futsal Club Championships held in Iran.
NSW Thunder started the better of the two sides and took a deserved lead when Dylan Maloney slotted the ball past Angelo Konstantinou in the Futsalroos goal.
The Aussies seemed to settle and come back into the contest. NSW thunder were unlucky not to eaxtend there lead when Elliot Ragomo¡¯s effort just went wide with Konstantinou stranded.
The Futsalroos newest member Tom Rogic then turned on the style with two well taken goals to give the Futsalroos the advantage at the half time break.
The second half was a mixed affair with the Futsalroos coming out of the sheds full of running taking and scoring two first to Pat Ross-McGee and the second sealed a hat-trick for Rogic.
NSW Thunder had it all to do as they tried to claw their way back into the contest.
With 8 minutes to go the game was turned on its head when NSW thunder started their fight back Robbie Issa found himself free inside the ¡°D¡± his shot beat Josh Codrington in the Futsalroo goal.
Then it was Elliot Ragomo turn to bring a goal back with a well worked move with Daniel Fulton.
Fulton¡¯s ball found Ragomo in space and his shot fly into the back of the net.
Danny Martinez then drew the sides level when some fine passing in mid court found Martinez in space and he finished nicely.
NSW Thunder had the crowd on their side as they pushed for the winner, however a lapse in concentration two minutes from time cost NSW Thunder dearly as John Barrientos was allowed to run through the middle of the court and Fernando De Moraes through ball found Barrientos whos effort was to good for Roberto Maiorana in the Thunder goal.
