Sheffield FC Futsal reached top spot in the FA National League North after a difficult home game against Tranmere Victoria, one of the favorites for the title.

Sheffield took the lead through Ben Mortlock, who shot from the right hand side into the near top corner on 3 minutes.

Tranmere responded within a minute after great individual skill from Michael Corran.
The visitors then took the lead after a defensive mistake by Sheffield in the 8th minute.

Joel Rocha took a penalty, 2 minutes before half time which was saved by goalkeeper Graham Smith, but Ben Mortlock scored from the rebound to make the score 2-2 at half time.

The game was very equal during the second half with Tranmere Victoria exploiting the counter-attack and hitting the bar once. Sheffield was pressing hard for a winning goal and finally took the lead with 3minutes to go from great work between Eamonn Chapman and Ryon Leyshon, with the latter scoring from close range.

Tranmere pressed hard to get the equalizer but Sheffield scored again through Oliver Wheatley-O’Neill with 90 seconds remaining to end Tranmere's unbeaten run.

Coach Janio Cruz said: “It was a great victory against a great team, our next 3 games will be vital to decide our season, we are working very hard and playing to get 3 points. The players did a very good job today and I am very happy with the team.”

Next Sheffield will travel to Manchester who beat Leeds away 9x2 to stay close with leaders Sheffield and Middlesbrough Futsal who beat Grimsby away 4x3.
The remaining match of the day had Oldham losing at home to Liverpool 6x2.
